20.03.10 - The Thing prequel casting
Lets see if it remains consistent or is just the useless cash-in everyone fears.
Quote:
THE THING prequel: Filling up some of the Norwegians, Dennis Storhøi, Trond Espen Seim, Jørgen Langhelle, Stig Henrik Hoff, Jan Gunnar Røise have all been cast in Universal Pictures and Strike Entertainment's prequel. They join the previously announced casting of Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton. Being helmed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr., in a remote Antarctica outpost, an alien spaceship is discovered far beneath the ice. When a group of ambitious scientists decide to thaw out one of the creatures inside, they're in for the terrifying fight of their lives. Shooting will take place in both British Columbia and Toronto. THE THING prequel: With shooting scheduled to begin soon on director Matthijs van Heijningen's prequel in British Columbia and Toronto, the film's producers took a moment to talk about what they found on the project. Marc Abraham and Eric Newman of Strike Entertainment spoke to the L.A. Times and had the following to say about the coming film: "I'd be the first to say no one should ever try to do JAWS again and I certainly wouldn't want to see anyone remake THE EXORCIST" Newman told the Times. "And we really felt the same way about THE THING. It's a great film. But once we realized there was a new story to tell, with the same characters and the same world, but from a very different point of view, we took it as a challenge. It's the story about the guys who are just ghosts in Carpenter's movie - they're already dead. But having Universal give us a chance to tell their story was irresistible."
