11.06.06 - Boll sues over film flop
Jesus Christ, maybe it bombed because it was so dreadful? I don't see how it was badly promoted in anyway, I actually heard of this... there's so many awesome films people don't hear about in the world.

*sigh*
Quote:
BLOODRAYNE: Uwe Boll?s $25 million adaptation the the videogame bombed at the box office with a mere $3,591,980 in theaters worldwide according to Box Office Mojo. He blames the film?s failure on fledgling movie distribution company Romar, including one of the company?s founders, Billy Zane, who was also one of the co-stars of the movie. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Boll is suing Romar Entertainment over the matter.

Here are the specifics: "The producers of BLOODRAYNE sued their U.S. distributor Monday for allegedly failing to properly promote or distribute the action horror film. The case brought by Uwe Boll and his companies against Romar Entertainment, James Schramm and Billy Zane seeks unspecified damages in Los Angeles Superior Court for breach of contract and other claims. The suit accuses Romar of breaching the agreement by failing to ensure that the movie opened in at least 2,000 theaters, of failing to pay the plaintiffs their share of the gross proceeds and failing to use the $10 million advanced by the production company to promote and advertise the film.

personally, I think the fewer theaters the better (for the movie-going public). but if there is a specified number of theaters in the contract with the us distributor, he may have a case. of course, what should the distributor have done when not enough movie houses bought the requisite number of reels (or their rights or whatever)? not show it at all. give the movie back? didn't they pay for those rights? weird.
