12.07.05 - Malefique remake pitched to Paramount
Another remake, this time of a foreign language movie, but a pretty famous one.. unfortunately its the guy behind I know what you did last summer and other utterly droll movies...

oh well Sad
Quote:
Meanwhile, John Pogue has sold a pitch for a remake of French horror pic "Malefique" to Paramount for producer Neal Moritz says Variety.

The story concerns an eclectic group of four inmates sharing one prison cell. When they find a book of occult spells, they try to use its shaky magic to escape, but things don't go as planned.

The following is Fangoria.com's run on the same article:
Quote:
Variety reports that Paramount, continuing to cement its standing as the House of Remakes, has bought a pitch for a U.S. version of the French horror film MALEFIQUE from screenwriter John Pogue, with Original Films? Neal Moritz and Ori Marmur attached to produce. The original movie (pictured), directed by Eric Valette and acclaimed at numerous international festivals, is about four strangers sharing a prison cell who discover a book of black magic hidden in one of the walls. They try to use it in an attempt to escape, and things go very badly from there. No director for the American version has been attached yet, and sadly, the French movie has yet to secure U.S. distribution, though it is available on overseas DVD. Moritz?s credits include the I KNOW WHAT YOU DID? and URBAN LEGEND movies, along with the TINGLER and PROM NIGHT reduxes currently in the works for Columbia, while Pogue wrote THE SKULLS and co-scripted the ROLLERBALL remake and GHOST SHIP
