Two female students, Marie and Alex, set off to Alex's parent's secluded homestead in the country to relax and study. Come nightfall, Hell pulls up at the front door. Alex is now bound and gagged, taken off, with Marie alluding the intruder. Can she save her friend's life in time? Or is everything all that it seems...

A like it or lump it movie.
"This film is great, one of the best french films ever made. France usually doesn't has the guts to make such films. But they did, Haute tension is one of the best horror ever made during the last ten years, good story, beautifuly photographed, well directed, scary has hell and extremly gory, not like scream and other stuff, but real gore like the good stuff of the 80's, like Lucio Fulci films, to prove it, the make up effects have been done by Giannetto De Rosi, very bloody moment like a guy cut up with a buzz saw and every thing is shown, one of the most gory sceens since Peter Jackson's Braindead. And to finish, this is the kind of film that will get banned in a couple of country's, in america it will probably get a NC-17 rating. Just go and see it." vs. "Honestly, I can't give my opinion for the full movie, since I only stood it for half an hour. The sound treatment is ridiculous, the acting very bad (except for Cecile de France, but even she is far from what she can give), the picture taking and framing is crap, every single clich? is present... To make bad stories short, I *really* didn't like it, even though I'm a fan of Cecile de France."
