Comment Based on George Orwell's book "1984" this movie gives us a look at how this man predicted the year 1984 to be. Today we could say that he was very pessimistic. But considering the political systems present in the time he wrote the book, it was quite possible that this would have happened. On the one hand we should thank god that it didn't. On the other hand we should be warned that it might still happen one day. So take this movie (or the book) as a warning.
The message that I personally conclude from it is: "Don't let others dictate your personality and opinion."
1984 tells the story of a man named Winston Smith. He lives in a political system that can best be described as dictatorship. There is only one party and it sets the rules and executes them anyway it likes. While most people (especially the children) obey the system, Winston seems to have a natural aversion against it. So he decides to secretly write a diary. Later he falls in love with a younger woman and for a short period of time he begins to have faith that one day the political order might change. But soon he is about to be disabused...
I don't rate this movie yet, because I haven't seen it. I have read the book however and can tell you that the story is very breathtaking. Probably hard to comprehend if you have no feeling for how communism (or facism) actually felt like. Luckily there are still some among us that do, so go and ask them how the things told in 1984 relate to history as we know it now.

After The Atomic War the world is divided into three states. London is the capital of Oceania, ruled by a party who has total control over all its citizens. Winston Smith is one of the bureaucrats, rewriting history in one of the departments. One day he commits the crime of falling in love with Julia. They try to escape Big Brother's listening and viewing devices, but, of course, nobody can really escape...
