Young poetess Rose Elliot buys a book from a local antique dealer, a diary in Latin of an architect, E. Varelli. She learns of the Three Mothers, and believes her apartment building is one of their houses. She pleads her brother Mark, who is studying musicology in Rome, to come, because she is afraid. Mark's friend Sara reads her letter, which he left behind in class, and discovers the school is run by the Mater Lacrimarum, and is killed for this knowledge. The house of Mater Suspiriorum has already been destroyed, and by the time Mark arrives in New York City, he is investigating his sister's murder.
Three years after the incident of the dance academy in "Suspiria", a new group of people are being watched in a New York City apartment complex by a mysterious and evil force hell bent on revenge! When Rose Elliot finds out too much about the place (via the book, "The Three Mothers") she gets be-headed (YEE-OUCH!)! The only person to stop the killings and uncover the secrets is her brother Mark. As he solves the puzzle, the murders get intense, and the evil starts to reveal itself. Hope Mark Elliot gets out of that "Renter's Trap" alive....
One of the better Argento movies out there! "Inferno(1980) is an Argento movie that has trouble getting respect from
anyone due to its non linear plot.This movie was heavily cut when released
in the United States.The music gives the film a certain gothic flavor and
the cinematography is perfect.Its just as good as Suspiria(1977) and
better then most gothic films made in Hollywood.What it lacks in plot or
story, it makes up in excellent set pieces and nightmarish landscapes.The
success of this film would open the flood gates for a whole bunch of Neo
gothic films in Italy.Inferno(1980) is a magnificent movie that should be
watched more then once and in its uncut/lbx form in order to fully enjoy and
understand it."
